I would go for a VCP6 exam because this will upgrade your certification and not just renew it, and not VCP5. The VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP6-DCV) page shows you what to do in path 3: If you hold an expired VCP certification for any solution track:
- Attend one of the required training courses. The VMware vSphere: Optimize and Scale [V6] course is one of them, so you have passed this requirement.
- Complete the vSphere 6 Foundations Exam
- Complete the VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Exam
