Re: After failed snapshot on WS11, can no longer power on station: Config file mismatch somewhere. How to power up now??

Monolithic .vmdk files in VMware Workstation only contain metadata (describing the .vmdk file itself) in the first few megabytes. The first 1536 Bytes I asked for will show the header data which contains information that is needed to fix the name mismatch. Although it's binary data, you can open the .bin files in a text editor to view some of the content.

Anyway, with the file sizes you posted, I'd guess that the snapshot (...-00000x.vmdk with ~5MB each) files do not contain production data, and it might be an option to simply edit the VM's configuration (.vmx) file and replace scsi0:0.fileName = "VM_Windows 7_1-000003.vmdk" with scsi0:0.fileName = "VM_Windows 7_1.vmdk". If you want to go this way, please backup the VM's folder prior to this, and close VMware Workstation (or at least the VM's tab) to ensure that the .vmx file gets re-read after the manual modification.

If this works, we can then go ahead and remove some obsolete files.
