I'm glad i'm not the only one struggling with vmware licensing as I've been searching for an answer to a similar question for months.
I wanted to know if my infrastructure VMs like AD, the vcenter appliance and view servers are allowed and don't come of the pack numbers. I spoke with a vmware EUC expert yesterday and he confirmed that VMs needed to support the VDI infrastructure are acceptable and don't count towards the packs of VMs you have bought. So yes yr AD, View Connection servers are accepted and I reckon your smart card server falls in the "desktop management tools" arena.
Why don't vmware make this clear and explicit on their buying guide. I'm sure guys in my business are also buying ESxi and vCenter licenses in addition to the Horizon packs my mistake.
Is there any difference in functionality between the vCenter (Desktop) vs a standard vcenter??
