We have an application that has lately been misbehaving by periodically returning results slowly or sometimes disconnecting the client. By slowly actions that should take a second or two can take 5 minutes or more, sometimes so long the client gives up and kills the app. In case it helps this is an Oracle Forms application. The forms servers have been virtualized on VMWare quite some time, though there has been some vmware upgrades since then. In December all of our storage, including what the vmware environment is on was changed over to NetApps. That seems to be the point at which the problems with this app began. The problem does not seem to be a database problem as I can see no bad activity (blocking, bad explain plans, etc.) while someone is experiencing the problem nor in diagnosis after the fact.
I'm not VMWare administrator, but I do have access to vSphere, vRealize and even direct access to the vCenter database. I was hoping someone could give me some guidance on where to look in order to try to find some correlation between times of these performance incidents and events, alarms or performance metrics on either the guest hosts or the esx hosts this app runs on. While I have no evidence right now I feel like it's something between the vmware environment and the storage.
I know... real vague information here. But I'm just looking for where to start. Thanks!
